WHAT TO EXPECT FROM ME:
*
Students who demonstrate genuine effort, dedication, and regular preparation for lessons will improve on a more consistent basis. I fully respect my students’ efforts and honor this with mutual respect and exert my best efforts to help improve your skills as an instrumentalist and a musician. I will provide you with every opportunity to progress and succeed. I strive to provide constructive advice that I would wish upon myself - independent of your career goals, whether professional or hobby. Additionally, in my lessons I focus on basic fundamentals of musicianship: performance-technique, orchestral repertoire, ear-training, sight-reading and music theory.

WHAT I EXPECT FROM YOU:
*
I give each student 100% of my dedication and best intentions. With positive reinforcement, I challenge students to their highest potential. I expect students to honor our professional relationship with a commitment to regular, consistent deliberate practice discipline, and lesson attendance. I expect to see noticeable evidence of practice and preparation between lessons. Practicing on a daily basis is a necessary discipline to develop the skills to become a proficient violinist and to be able to sight-read repertoire for personal enjoyment at any level. Parental support is very important for a child’s musical development and is strongly encouraged, as well as attending weekly lessons. My private studio, though not affiliated with any school district, should be regarded with the same respect, importance, and courtesy as an educational institution. In the same way that I honor consistency in our set schedule, your personal and extracurricular activities are not a valid excuse to miss and reschedule per convenience, and thus I would appreciate that my students and their parents commit to maintaining the priority of lessons and your child’s music education.

LESSON ETIQUETTE:
*
I urge all students to actively participate in lessons by making notations of my commentary, asking questions, critical thinking and freely engaging in discussion on the topic. Having me repeat things (i.e.; bowings, fingerings, dynamics, rhythm, and intonation markings) is not an efficient use of our lesson time. I ask that students wash their hands before the lesson and keep fingernails trimmed short, in order to maintain proper finger position on the fingerboard, intonation adjustments and hygiene.

CANCELLATION & MAKE-UP POLICY:
*
I will make my best efforts to accommodate each student’s day & time preference. Once the schedule is set, it is your responsibility to attend and be punctual. To reschedule or cancel a set lesson, you must notify me at least one day in advance and receive my confirmation. If you fail to abide by this courtesy, this lesson is forfeited and non-refundable. I will honor your request to cancel or schedule a make-up due to emergency circumstances, which must be approved by me. All make-ups are to be completed within the current month and missed lessons may not be rolled over to the next month or used as credit for the following month. If a lesson is canceled by me, then you are guaranteed a make-up lesson unconditionally. Make-up lessons can also be done online. Students attending lessons twice per month are allowed to reschedule only 2 lessons per month due to emergencies, and students taking lessons once per week are allowed 1 lesson to reschedule, per month. Lessons missed due to social events, sporting events, vacations, etc. will not qualify for rescheduling unless previously discussed and approved by me.

ATTENDANCE POLICY:
*
Students who are taking only one lesson per week must take at least 3 lessons per month, or 4 during months with 5 weeks. Please be punctual and have all necessary materials. PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS:
*
Each student is strongly encouraged to perform repertoire prepared during the semester. Additional fees are collected for accompanying compensation and hall rental (if required). Students are also expected to participate and audition for recommended performance opportunities outside of Studio Recitals, such as festivals, orchestras, chamber music performances, etc. Only students with repertoire deemed ‘recital ready’ will be given permission to participate in studio recitals. Students are also encouraged to participate in the Royal Conservatory of Music, Certificate of Merit program and other adjudicated performances as this is an excellent opportunity to perform for professional judges for a graded assessment of musicianship and technical performance.

TERMINATION:
*
If a student or a parent should decide to terminate lessons at any time, the studio requires a one-month written notice in advance. If you decide to not attend the remaining monthly lessons, you are still responsible for their cost, as those lessons are not refundable.

HOW MUCH SHOULD I PRACTICE
*
I have fair and realistic expectations of my students, based on their goals. Prior to joining my studio, these expectations are discussed and mutually agreed upon. I would like to see consistency in your practice and progress. Continually neglecting adequate preparation for a lesson is rarely tolerated, and I reserve the right to end the lesson early if I deem it unproductive. Students who establish a pattern of coming unprepared, risk being released from my studio. Weekly repertoire is assigned based on the student's allotted time to practice and dedication.
